TEC has completed hundreds of cultural resource projects in the past five years. The firm serves an extensive and diverse list of clients including local, state, and federal government agencies, utilities, and private clients. Our private clients have included large utilities such as Qwest and Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), as well as mid-sized construction companies and private developers.

Recent projects range in scope from small clearance surveys for private development to a cultural resource inventory survey of over 6,000 acres on the Carson National Forest. TEC also has a long track record in cultural resource management (CRM) through overseeing the completion of hundreds of cultural resource surveys conducted by sub-consultants. TEC has in-house GIS specialists and utilizes the latest GIS technology and software, for all environmental and cultural resource projects. more...

The Abo Canyon Double Track Project: 
Cultural and Historical Investigations In Abo Canyon , Valencia and Socorro Counties , NM 


TEC personnel conducted an intensive pedestrian survey and historic research for a proposed second BNSF rail line through Abo Canyon . TEC identified 51 sites, 13 railroad structures, and one cultural landscape (NRHP district). In addition to the pedestrian survey, TEC personnel conducted interviews with knowledgeable area residents and conducted extensive research leading to the development of an historic context for the Abo Canyon Railway Construction District. 


US 62-180 Cultural Evaluation, Eddy County , NM 

NMDOT contracted with TEC to evaluate impacts of the proposed reconstruction of the US 62/180 corridor through Eddy County, NM. Cultural, Biological and NEPA evaluations were conducted. The cultural evaluation included survey, testing, and data recovery of sites affected by the proposed improvements. In consultation with the NMDOT, the State Land Office, the Bureau of Land Management, and the New Mexico SHPO, TEC developed a testing and data recovery plan to minimize adverse effects to National Register eligible sites within the project APE. Testing fieldwork was completed in May 2006 and data recovery investigations are ongoing. 


Pioneer Canyon Historic Mine Recording and Archaeological Survey 

The USDA-Forest Service contracted with TEC to conduct an intensive survey on the Carson National Forest just south of the Town of Red River , Taos County , NM . TEC recorded 24 historic mining sites at high altitude, many with standing wood structures. The scope of work included producing detailed large- format maps of all historic properties identified within the survey area and archival research regarding mining in the Red River area. 


A Cultural Resource Survey Of Proposed Locations For A Water Supply System in Chimayó, Santa Fe And Rio Arriba Counties, NM 

Molzen-Corbin & Associates contracted TEC to conduct an intensive historic property investigation and survey for a proposed water delivery system in Chimayó. TEC personnel identified 31 historic irrigation ditches and laterals, five historic period archaeological sites, and 81 historic buildings. Documentation of these resources resulted in the identification of several historical contexts and local vernacular architectural styles for Chimayó. 


South Valley Water System Expansion Project, Bernalillo County , NM 

This complex, multi-phase project is ongoing. To date, TEC’s investigations for the South Valley Water System Expansion Project have resulted in the identification of two historic sites, 128 historic buildings, and segments of 45 acequias and laterals.
